OVERVIEW

Show Details : GREEN ACRES

Much to the chagrin of his glamorous, socialite, Hungarian wife Lisa (Eva Gabor), successful lawyer Oliver Wendell Douglas (Eddie Albert) leaves behind the complications of modern Manhattan society life and buys a dilapidated farm, sight unseen from swindler, Mr. Haney (Pat Buttram). The couple says “goodbye to city life” and they take up residence in the fictitious rural town of Hooterville. The town is populated with wildly eccentric characters like pig farmers Fred (Hank Patterson) and Doris Ziffel (played first by Barbara Pepper then Fran Ryan) whose son Arnold is a TV-watching pig and lastly, Eb Dawson (Tom Lester), the lanky handyman who tries with all his might to work his magic and refurbish the Douglas’ farm. With the farmhouse in a state of disrepair, Oliver unsuccessfully attempts to restore the farm to its original luster and Lisa settled in to her new surroundings despite herself -- and attempts to bring gracious living and the finer things to the oddball residents of this off-the-map town. Premiered September 15, 1965
